In 2010 107-year-old Clara Meadmore came out to say that she had never been sexually active as she had made a decision during her early teen years to remain a virgin until death. In an interview on her 107th birthday, she admitted to having been proposed to on several occasions but was too busy for any intimate relationship. She even went as far as attributing her longevity to her abstinence from sex.
When asked about the reason for her decision to stay a virgin, she talked about how most people assumed she was a homosexual but on the contrary, she just wasn't interested in sex or marriage in general. She believed abstinence was going to save her a whole lot of problems in life, like having to deal with STDs and heartbreak from relationships.
Her Life
Clara Meadmore was born In October 1903 In Glasgow, two years after the passing of Queen Victoria. When she was just seven years old, her family moved to Egypt and later to Canada, and then to New Zealand but by the time she got to her 20s she had saved up enough money to move back to the UK on her own. On reaching the UK, Meadmore decided she wasn’t up for marriage so she decided to take up several jobs to be able to afford her independence.
